I started doing nails when I had my first baby and realised I couldn’t just pop into a nail salon anymore. But I desperately needed my nails done, so my lovely friend bought me a DIY kit, and I practised at home. Soon friends and family were asking me to do their nails, and I charged them £5–£10. Before I knew it, my hobby grew into a full-time business.

Working from home lets me earn, be creative, and spend time with my kids - and I absolutely love it!

Over the years, I’ve honed my skills in gel nails, builder gel, and creative nail art, constantly learning new techniques via Instagram, YouTube, professional courses, and at competitions. I’ve been honoured to receive awards from the Hair & Beauty Awards and the UK Hair & GB Beauty Awards, and have been featured in Scratch magazine. I’m also proud to work alongside respected brands like Katie Barnes and Bluesky, further growing my expertise.

As my clients and social media followers kept asking me “how do you do that?”, I realised I could help others share this passion. That’s why I launched Mel’s Gels Academy, where I teach people to:
